Some Little Thoughts
by Raymonde Sacklyn
To My Parents
I shall never see my father again,
I shall never be able to hear him,
I shall never, again, feel those strong arms,
I shall never forget that wonderful man,
I shall never see my mother again,
I shall never be able to hear her voice,
I shall never hear her laugh again,
I shall never forget her presence of mind,
I shall never be able to show, again,
I shall never be able to tell them,
I shall never, again, be able
I shall never, again, hear of their joys, and of their fears;
I yearn for a second chance,
I yearn for a second helping,
I wish that I could back the clock,
I wish that I had told them, daily,
And, now, they're gone: I am alone:
Alone with fearful dreams.
Oh, God! My heart is stone,
My limbs are lead,
I feel I should not try
To lift my worthless head;
But mourn, and shed a tear,
I've lost my chance to tell them,
All that I should have said,
Oh, God! Please help me,
To let them know
Before I, too, am dead:
That I did love them, daily,
But I was too proud
