Some Little Thoughts

That  Haunting  Bell

I heard it ringing as though
A funereal chorus were singing.
The haunting words I knew and understood:

She is gone;
Weep no more;
One life departed;
Close the door.

I know, only too well, this chorus.
It is part of The Symphony of The Bell.
The leitmotiv, it commands me to harken:

She is gone;
Weep no more;
One life departed;
Close the door.

I cannot bend or restrain my tears. They come
As does a summers storm: When will this sadness end?
The pain, the horror of a love, departed:

She is gone;
Weep no more;
One life departed;
Close the door.

I cry. Forever, I shall remember
That love we had, passionate yet ever tender.
That Bell will chime in every corner of my soul:

She is gone;
Weep no more;
One life departed;
Close the door.
