Some Little Thoughts

Man's Epithet

To live in the pursuit of honour,
Refusing to die in shame,
What greater glory has man
Than to live by those seven words?
His epithet to life:
His name.

To live a life of dignity,
Unafraid of another’s scorn,
To raise one’s head proudly,
Oblivious of life’s barbs;
No fear of misdeeds:
Honourably born.

To think thoughts of greatness,
Spurning covetous lust;
To walk, always in the sunlight,
Proud and unashamed,
Denouncing clouds and darkness:
Granting trust.

To live in the certain knowledge
That you have tried your best;
To live a life of love,
Of humble devotion,
Leading the pack, following nobody,
Then, to rest.

To sleep in the bed of a child,
Who knows not wrong from right;
For children are the innocent ones,
Who need just love
To feed their little souls,
During life’s flight.

To turn your back on avarice,
To think thoughts nobler, far above,
What is required of life
Is creativity and form
As sure as form follows function,

So man needs love.
