Some Little Thoughts

Forgive  Me

It is only when death sounds, farewell
That a man may recall what he did not tell
His loved ones when time permitted:
For, by then, he may ask, only,
That his sins of omission be remitted.

And, in that shallow, sodden earth
Shall he try to see the sky, with no dearth
Of contriteness or penitence and say:
Forgive me for that which I did not do
All of my days, today and yesterday.
