Touch Me
History may tend to wash away
Some of the evil deeds of yesterday.
But listen!
You shall hear inimitable voices,
Deep within, as though hands were entreating:
‘Remember past deeds! They cannot be expunged
‘As the morning shower clears the clinging mist
‘At day’s first light.
‘As water perpetuates life,
‘So the sins of man remain his eternal legacy,
‘Ever and forever;
‘Passed down from one generation to another:
‘Man’s horrid footprint, implanted in hardened sod —
‘His unique blight.’
